Why Montag turned the flamethrower on Beatty?

Montag killed Beatty with a flamethrower, he wanted to protect himself from being arrested, even worst be killed. He was also threating Faber's life. Beatty was also mocking him, for trying to "preach" so calls Beatty. Make others want to read books and poems. That Montag was a fool of himself to think this way, a total fool of himself. Beatty was the representation of the society, he wanted things to maintain the same, especially a certain way. Reading books would have made them think from themselves for once in their lives. Said this is WRONG. Questioned
