We learn that Nick is invited to Gatsby's great party
 There were see that he was the only one that got an invitation.  While the other one did not but they told many different stories about Gatsby. They said all this without knowing him and even never seen him in person. Nick meets Gatsby and does not except him to be the way he image. He imaged him to be an old and obese man.
